Ok, if you’re reading this page, you asked for it. Here’s everything. Warts and all.
I’m reminded of a Jim Rohn story from one of my old Nightingale-Conant CDs that I used to listen to as I drove across Texas from sales appointment to sales appointment. He said,
if you really want to know how to succeed at life, find a 40 year old who is behind on his bills and behind on his promises and living in the greatest country in the world. Then, interview him. Once you’ve asked how he screwed things up so badly, do the opposite.
But of course, as wise as that would be, no one actually does that.
They’d rather hear the success “secrets” of the man or woman on stage, the one with the New York Times Best Seller, the award winning podcast, and the flawless branding on their website. They just know that person driving the car they wish they were driving (or something similar)… the one living in THAT house… taking THOSE trips… that’s the one that MUST know something they don’t. They must be the one worth following. Worth hiring. Worth… anything.
Well, I hate to break it to you, but for most of my life, I’ve been much closer to the foolish, broke, and scared 40-year-old than the got-all-together-millionaire-by-35 success stories you see on Instagram.
Sure, I’ve had some nice houses and a few nice cars along the way. The 6-figure freelance business working 2-3 hours per day. The trips to Hawaii.
I’ve also lost all those things---twice. Almost lost my marriage 7 years in too. My son didn’t talk to us for 2 years during the pandemic. I flunked out of college. Failed 7th and 10th grade. My parents were married and divorced 4 times--each.

So yeah, I've been to hell and back and I got a few souvenirs.
I’ve had more jobs than I can count as I tried to survive and find my own way in this world. I’ve suffered through self-doubt, depression, anxiety, and utter boredom with my life.
And not just once in a while, for decades.
All this and more is why during my 40’s I began questioning everything. My purpose. My work ethic. My life philosophy. My religion. My friends. My family. Everything. I spent tens of thousands of dollars on coaching, courses, seminars, books and more.
It’s kind of crazy when I look back on it now that I’m over 50 and in what I refer to as my second half of life.
I’ve finally started letting go of my past. I’ve started being easier on myself.
I’ve started enjoying the simple things like a walk in the woods, a good book, and meeting friends over a cold beer and great conversation.
And now, I’m enjoying serving others on a similar journey as together we seek wisdom, create wealth, and maintain courage for the second half of their life.
